The University Lecture Committee presents Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon of the '80s rock band Sonic Youth.

Kim Gordon

Kim Althea Gordon (born April 28, 1953, Rochester, New York[1]) is an American musician, vocalist, artist, record producer, video director and actress. She sings and plays bass and guitar in the alternative rock band Sonic Youth, and in Free Kitten with Julia Cafritz (of Pussy Galore). Gordon has collaborated with a number of musicians, including Ikue Mori, DJ Olive, William Winant, Lydia Lunch, Courtney Love, Alan Licht and Chris Corsano.

Thurston Moore

Thurston Joseph Moore (born July 25, 1958)[1] is an American musician best known as a singer, songwriter and guitarist of Sonic Youth. He has also participated in many solo and group collaborations outside of Sonic Youth, as well as running the Ecstatic Peace! record label. Moore, along with Sonic Youth band mate Lee Ranaldo were ranked the 33rd and 34th in Rolling Stone's 2004 edition of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time."

Sonic Youth

Sonic Youth is an American rock band from New York City, formed in 1981. The current lineup consists of Thurston Moore (vocals and guitar), Kim Gordon (vocals, bass, guitar), Lee Ranaldo (vocals and guitar), Steve Shelley (drums), Mark Ibold (bass, guitar)

In their early career, Sonic Youth was associated with the No Wave art and music scene in New York City. Part of the first wave of American noise rock groups, the band carried out their interpretation of the hardcore punk ethos throughout the evolving American underground that focused more on the DIY ethic of the genre rather than its specific sound. As a result, some consider Sonic Youth as pivotal in the rise of the alternative rock and indie rock movements. The band has experienced success and critical acclaim throughout the last three decades, continuing into the new millennium, including signing to major label DGC in 1990, and headlining the 1995 Lollapalooza festival.
