Don Hall is an American film director, writer and voice actor known predominantly for his work with Walt Disney Animation Studios, and currently works with Skydance Animation. Don Hall directed Big Hero 6, Winnie the Pooh, Raya and the Last Dragon, Strange World, and co-directed Moana. In 2015, he won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature for his work directing Big Hero 6. Don Hall served in a writing role for Meet the Robinsons, Winnie the Pooh, Moana, and Raya and the Last Dragon, as well as working as a story artist for Tarzan, The Emperor's New Groove, and Chicken Little. He has lent his voice in various roles in fifteen different Disney films, including The Princess and the Frog, Zootopia, Frozen II, and Encanto.
Don Hall is a graduate of the University of Iowa. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in drawing and painting. Since graduating, he spent 25 years with Walt Disney Animation before moving to Skydance Animation this year. His lecture will be a discussion with the director of the Magid Center for Writing, Daniel Khalastchi about his journey from a student at Iowa to an Academy Award winning director. Following the discussion, there will be allotted time for audience questions.
